Few wineries in California produce 25 different wines, including Bordeaux, Rhône, Burgundy and Italian varietals. But then, few wineries can match the intimate relationship Lucas & Lewellen has with Santa Barbara County’s amazing winegrowing potential. Co-founded by viticulturist Louis Lucas and wine enthusiast Royce Lewellen in 1996, this small winery boasts three vineyards totaling 400 acres of vines, in the county’s three main growing regions: Santa Maria Valley, Los Alamos Valley and Santa Ynez Valley. All are meticulously tended by Louis, who planted his first vines here in 1970. With Winemaker Megan McGrath Gates heading up the cellar, little Lucas & Lewellen has become one of Santa Barbara County’s most popular wineries.

Chanin Wine Co. is dedicated to crafting wines from Santa Barbara County that reflect the individual vineyard in which they are grown. We focus on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, two grapes that are especially revealing of subtle differences in geography, geology and climate. Our grapes are grown in Santa Barbara County, where cool coastal winds, diverse marine based soils and a long growing season provide an exciting and unique environment for Burgundian varieties.

The vineyards are the focus of all of our wines and each wine is made from grapes grown at one vineyard and not blended. We search out old vines and make wine from some of the oldest in the county. This allows us to make refreshingly balanced wines at lower alcohol levels than most California “blockbuster” or “cult” styled wines. Through low yields, improved farming techniques and gentle winemaking we aim to create a wine that pairs well with food and is delicious young but is also age-worthy. All of our vineyards are organic or sustainably farmed.

Our winemaking philosophy is rooted in representing each individual vineyard by emphasizing balance, finesse, and complexity. We avoid excessive alcohol, and modern winemaking additives (such as commercial yeasts, bacteria, enzymes) that can overshadow vineyard characteristics. We also do not filter our wines or use intrusive wine processing machines. The goal is to grow grapes that are so healthy none of the above is needed.

EVAN’S RANCH Winery

Kaena is a boutique winery that sources from Tierra Alta Vineyard and Larner Vineyard in the Ballard Canyon AVA , primarily. Winemaker, Mikael Sigouin, who is part Hawaiian and raised on the Oahu shores, uses a shortened version of his given name for the brand – Kaena – which means “potential for greatness”.

That “greatness” is evident in the wines – in 2006 Wine Spectator named Mikael one of the top 10 new Rhone producers. Known affectionately by his peers and fans as The Grenache King – Kaena produces 2,000 cases of Rhone & other varietals with an emphasis on Grenache.

Kaena has been serving up the Aloha in the Santa Ynez Valley for the last three years in the beautiful quaint town of Los Olivos. The vibe is welcoming, chill, relaxed. Dierberg and Star Lane Vineyards – the first decade of JIm and Mary Dierberg’s  California wine adventure was spent searching for the ideal location to plant a vineyard and start a new winery. Purchased by Roger Bower in 2012, Crown Point is an estate winery dedicated to crafting wines of the highest distinction. Nestled in the eastern-most foothills of the east-to-west transverse valley of the Happy Canyon of Santa Barbara AVA (American Viticultural Area), Crown Point is blessed with distinct climatic conditions and soil types that provide an ideal growing environment for Bordeaux varieties.

Winemaker Adam Henkel joined Roger in 2013. The tour finishes with a seated tasting of our estate wines and a cheese pairing.

Grassini Family Vineyards is a private estate available by appointment only. This 120-minute experience begins with a tour of our winemaking facility, where guests will have the opportunity to learn about the artistry behind the scenes. Zaca Mesa is a Santa Ynez estate vineyard and winery dedicated to Rhône varietals. We hand craft our wines with integrity using traditional methods from grapes sustainably grown in our in Santa Barbara County Wine Country vineyard.

Since 1973, we have farmed and nurtured our vineyard to produce wines that are true to the unique spirit of our land. Our tasting room and vineyards are situated on the Foxen Canyon Trail. Pack a picnic and enjoy it in our Grenache Blanc vineyard or out on our newly remodeled courtyard. Fancy a game of chess? Play on our life-sized chess set!

Wine Tasting

Join us to relax on one of our patio picnic tables, gaze out at the San Rafael Mountains from our Club Lounge & Terrace, or enjoy a picnic beneath the century-old oak tree on our vineyard lawn.

Sip delicious wines from one of our available tasting flights, starting at $20 per person. Tours and large groups can be arranged by appointment.

Happy Canyon Vineyard is nestled into the undulating hills of the beautiful Piocho Ranch. The Barracks have taken great pride over the years in being stewards of the land and along with their wine maker Doug Margerum, have created something that is unique to the beauty and richness of the place. Piocho, is a Chumash Indian word meaning “where the two rivers meet and go to heaven”. The ranch is also home to the “Piocho” polo team.

There are the top wines called Barrack Brand, Barrack Blanc and Barrack Ten–Goal and two companion wines; PIOCHO is the champion wine made mostly from Cabernet Franc. There is also a nouveau styled Bordeaux blend released each Easter (perfect with Spring Lamb) called CHUKKER.

Our wines are available on our website and in our new tasting room, located in Santa Barbara at 30 El Paseo, open 12pm – 6pm daily. For a truly special experience, we offer private, by appointment tastings at our ranch and vineyard.

All of the wines produced by CrossHatch Winery are co-fermented blends sourced from Santa Barbara County vineyards. The idea of co-fermented wine is nothing new. Some of the best and oldest wines in the world are made this way, but with the micro-climates of Santa Barbara it really adds another layer to the process. The story of Martellotto (which means big hammer in Italian) begins in Alberobello in Puglia, Italy. My grandfather left the old country in 1918 to find a new, better life for himself and us. Given that my nonno produced wine in his basement for the local Italian community in the Bronx during Prohibition, it’s possible that my destiny in wine is genetically encoded.

This wasn’t my initial career trajectory; I intended to become a doctor. However, the allure and enticements of the vine were too strong to resist.

Balanced alcohol, oak tannins, and zippy acidity that make my lips smack are qualities of wines I find appealing. I believe great wine complements life. Wine is shared at peak moments and becomes a tool to make memories and experiences more vibrant. Wine is art and science, romantic and intimate, and it’s also fermented grapes.

The winery started in 2004 with a patch of raw earth, a bucket of grapevines and plenty of sweat from family and friends who joined to embark on the extraordinary. From this work emerged a commitment to produce authentic, handcrafted wines emblematic of the vintage, earth and effort.

Rhone Varietals

We focus on crafting elegant, alluring Rhone varietals with grapes sourced from extraordinary vineyards in the Santa Ynez Valley. We are the boutique in boutique, creating only 1,000 cases each vintage.

While we began making wine in the garage, we now offer barrel-tasting sessions at the winery along with vineyard tours and Grenache Roadshows for wine club members. The majority of our production is sold through our tasting room in historic, eclectic Los Alamos, California.
