Sta. Rita Hills American Viticulture Appellation (AMA)

The Sta. Rita Hills American Viticulture Appellation is located on California’s Central Coast in Santa Barbara County. The Pacific Ocean’s marine layer and afternoon ocean breezes traverse the coastal valley corridors between the Purisima Hills and the Santa Rosa Hills, creating the perfect environment for growing Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and other cool climate wine grape varieties.

Founded in 1997, the Sta. Rita Hills Winegrowers Alliance was created to bring together growers and winemakers in the Western Santa Ynez Valley. With AVA status granted in 2001, our mission continues to support our members, from vineyard to tasting room.

Alliance Mission

The Sta. Rita Hills AVA status was granted in 2001 by the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Regulation Division. The mission of the Alliance is to support the viticulture and enological business interests of its 47 Members, as they relate to grapes and wine from our AVA.

Got a large posse or a special occasion? We can tailor your horseback ride just for you!

Celebrating something special or want a private ride for a group bigger than 6? Drop us a line at [email protected] to customize your ride. We can arrange picnic lunches, cheese boards, florals, photographers, and more for an additional fee.

POLICIES:

  • All riders must be 8 years or older. If you bring a child under 8 without prior approval, your ride will be canceled for safety reasons.
  • Maximum weight limit for riders is 240 pounds.
  • Our adventures are by reservation only; we can’t accommodate walk-ins.
  • Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance. No-shows within 24 hours are non-refundable.
  • Please arrive 30 minutes early for paperwork and equipment fitting. Late arrivals will have their ride time shortened accordingly.
  • All rides guided by an experienced cowboy.
  • Tips for your guides are appreciated!
  • Guides may refuse rides for safety reasons without a refund.
  • No riding for anyone appearing under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • We have horses for all experience levels. Please accurately disclose your riding ability as beginner, intermediate, or advanced.
  • Ride pace will match the lowest skill level in the group.
  • REQUIRED: Helmets and close-toed shoes with minimal heel.
  • We reserve the right to cancel or reschedule rides due to excessive heat for the safety of our guests, guides, and horses. If necessary, we’ll notify you in advance.
  • No smoking, vaping, or illegal drugs allowed on the property.

Located at 1635 Mission Drive, Coast Range is a Central Coast steakhouse and seafood restaurant with a full cocktail bar, a patio, and a daytime cafe and pastry program.

Anthony Carron and Steven Fretz have joined forces for the steakhouse, which features steaks from the historic ranches in the Santa Ynez Valley, including products from the owner’s Santa Ynez ranch and seafood directly from the Santa Barbara wharfs. Chef Melissa is from Louisiana, and her Cajun-accented cooking is so market-driven that the menu changes daily. Clean the Slate

And when something runs out because the wine was limited production, the farmer sold out of produce, the beer was brewed in a small batch, or the local fisherman only caught so much, we “clean the slate” and start fresh. There’s always something new to try.

Since we opened, we’ve built a reputation as an inviting spot to experience the best of California Central Coast’s food and wine. Come and join us and hang out for a while.

Chris is very involved in the design of many of the guitars available for purchase, putting heart into every step—from choosing and matching woods, specifying shapes, fingerboards, etc.

The Genesis of Lost Chord Guitars

Established in 2019 by Chris and Kim Pelonis, Lost Chord Guitars in downtown Solvang is a unique blend of a music venue, art and photography gallery, and boutique guitar shop. This innovative space was designed to create a magical atmosphere where music serves as a unifying force. The venue also offers its own wine and beer from M. Special Brewing. Chris Pelonis, deeply involved in the guitar design process, meticulously selects and matches woods, specifying shapes and fingerboards. Lost Chord Guitars also functions as a multimedia studio, equipped for multi-track recording and multi-camera video shoots, providing pristine acoustics and an engaging ambiance.

Chris Pelonis: A Multifaceted Talent

Chris Pelonis is renowned for his diverse talents. He encompasses roles as a musician, engineer, producer, singer-songwriter, martial artist, surfer, choir director, photographer, studio designer, and speaker manufacturer. Jeff Bridges describes him as “relentless and passionate,” dedicating long hours to his projects. Despite his many roles, Chris remains kind, loyal, and compassionate, contributing to various causes and designing world-class studios. His multifaceted expertise and creative approach make him a sought-after figure in the professional audio industry.

Members of our Imbibers Club enjoy complimentary tastings for themselves and up to three guests. While we do our best to welcome walk-ins, we recommend making a reservation, especially on weekends. About Los Olivos General Store

Inspired by an old general store on their family property, in 2012, Christina and Michael Larner opened the Los Olivos General Store. They placed a vintage gas pump in front of the store as a tribute to its past. This iconic pump now anchors the street corner and welcomes guests.

They wanted a perfect spot to sell their family wine and to offer gifts and handmade goods. The Larners found it in the historic Los Olivos Garage space in the heart of Los Olivos.

Making friends is our business, and we are honored to share our wines with our friends. Inspired by my father, August A. Busch, Jr., who opened Grant’s Farm to the public in 1954, we continue his legacy of hospitality. Kim and I fell in love with Santa Barbara in 1998 and decided to raise our children amidst the beauty of the California coast and the joys of ranch life. Folded Hills became our haven, and we invite you to experience our wine, food, and way of life.

The Authentic Nature of Wine

The name Liquid Farm describes the authentic nature of wine (liquid from farming), and reflects our strong belief that all great wines start in the vineyard. We focus on wines from one of the coolest of California AVAs: Sta. Rita Hills. It’s home to some of the most unique, ancient soils in North America and is perfect for growing Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. We allow our wines to develop on their own with little intervention, resulting in well-balanced, food-friendly wines.

Tired of not finishing local bottles, we dreamed of creating wines with lower alcohol and earth-driven character. So, we took a leap and decided to make the wine we loved, right in our backyard!

Meet the Team

Jeff Nelson – With 20+ years in the wine world, Jeff has worked with top Champagne and Burgundy houses. His vision for Liquid Farm came alive in 2009 with a little help from Brandon Sparks-Gillis of Dragonette Cellars!

James Sparks – A winemaker with a baker’s heart! James brings precision and passion to every bottle, blending his family’s baking roots with his wine expertise.

Our Journey

We started with four barrels of Chardonnay in 2009, planning to create one wine. But our wine had other ideas! Two barrels became our White Hill Chardonnay, evoking the minerality of Premier Cru Chablis. The other two turned into Golden Slope, reminiscent of the lush, textured wines of Meursault. Since then, we’ve expanded, crafting wines like La Hermana, Four, and our Bandol-inspired Rosé.

Our Mission

Liquid Farm is committed to honoring local viticulture and old-world flavors. We seek purity, acidity, and natural elegance—no shortcuts, just authentic character.

Liquid Farm is about the magic that happens above and below ground. Our label features a dandelion-inspired beet root, crafted by UK artist Val Littlewood, symbolizing the connection between earth and wine. Get ready to dive into the bold, high-octane world of the Mendenhall Museum, located in the rugged beauty of Buellton, California, located in the iconic Santa Ynez Valley. Housing one of the West Coast’s most powerful collections of petroliana, this museum, packed with gasoline pumps, globes, and vintage gas, oil, and road signs tells the story of America’s love affair with the road. You’ll also find race cars, adrenaline-pumping racing memorabilia, license plates, and a treasure trove of gas and oil relics alongside other bold antiques.

A Legacy of Collecting

It all started more than 50 years ago with Jack Mendenhall, a man who didn’t just run a service station—he lived and breathed the automotive world. Today, his son Mark and daughter-in-law Vickie keep the engine roaring, continuing to grow this mighty collection.

Jack Mendenhall: The Original American Picker

Jack Mendenhall wasn’t just any collector. In the fifties, he owned and operated a Richfield Service Station, cutting deals with AAA and hitting the open road after selling the station. While traveling the U.S., Jack wasn’t just selling signs—he was building a legacy, one vintage piece at a time.

The Museum Grounds

The museum stands on the very ground where Jack ran his wrecking yard, displaying a lifetime of finds. Mark and Vickie, no strangers to the allure of classic automobiles, spent 25 years running their own Chevron Station, eventually catching the collecting fever themselves.

Speed, Racing, and Hall of Fame Glory

Jack and Mark made their mark on Land Speed Racing. Jack became a Lifetime Member of the exclusive 200 MPH Club, while Mark hit an incredible 210.114 mph. This passion fueled the Mendenhall’s role as the heart of racing history.

Plenty is helmed by Chef Jesper Johansson, a native of Sweden.  Chef Jesper was he very first chef to put Los Alamos on the foodie map, being head chef and partner at the legendary Café Quackenbush.
