Welcome to Folded Hills

Winery, Wine Tasting & Farmstead

folded-hills-winery-buelltonNestled among organic vineyards and row crops, our estate Folded Hills Winery tasting room offers an enchanting wine experience just 40 minutes from Santa Barbara and right off the 101 freeway. As the closest vineyard to the ocean and the first stop on your way to wine country, it’s the perfect place to begin your adventure. Across the street, you’ll find Folded Hills Farmstead, where guests can pet and feed adorable baby farm animals. We also have a second tasting room in Montecito’s lower village, providing a taste of ranch life in an urban seaside setting.

Our Story

Making friends is our business, and we are honored to share our wines with our friends. Inspired by my father, August A. Busch, Jr., who opened Grant’s Farm to the public in 1954, we continue his legacy of hospitality. Kim and I fell in love with Santa Barbara in 1998 and decided to raise our children amidst the beauty of the California coast and the joys of ranch life. Folded Hills became our haven, and we invite you to experience our wine, food, and way of life.

Our Beliefs at Folded Hills Winery

Legacy: We honor our heritage with wines named after family members, like the award-winning Lilly Rosé, August White, and Red blends.
Hands-On Approach: From tending animals to growing organic vegetables, our family is deeply involved in the ranch’s daily life. Meet our “farmily” of animals, including sheep, donkeys, mini horses, and even a camel and zebra!
Family: Our wines celebrate family, past and present, enriching and preserving our property for future generations.
Quality: We farm organically and craft our wines with minimal intervention, ensuring the highest quality. Our small-batch artisanal wines reflect the unique terroir of our old-world sustainable farm and working ranch.

We proudly welcome you to Folded Hills, where each bottle tells a story of history, legacy, and family. Come taste the sun, fog, and ocean breezes in every sip.

Carr Vineyards and Winery

Ryan Carr, the owner, winemaker, and grower for Carr Vineyards & Winery, discovered his passion for viticulture after moving to Santa Ynez Valley, California. Originally from Southern California, Ryan had an interest in farming but pursued an Art degree from the University of Arizona. After tasting local wines in Santa Ynez, he decided to delve into viticulture. He started with vineyard management and later working at Central Coast Wine Services in 1998.

In 1999, Ryan produced his first vintage, a Cabernet Sauvignon, in his garage from grapes he helped grow, yielding just 10 cases. Encouraged by the positive feedback, he partnered with Andy Kahn to start a vineyard development company and became the assistant winemaker for Kahn Winery. This collaboration allowed Ryan to create his first commercial vintage.

Santa Barbara County

By 2004, Carr Winery was producing over 1,000 cases and gaining national recognition. By 2006, Ryan had built three wineries and planted over 200 acres of grapes in Santa Barbara County. In 2007, he opened Carr Winery in downtown Santa Barbara, one of only four full production wineries and tasting rooms in the area. Since then, Carr Winery has received numerous accolades and awards, cementing its reputation for producing some of Santa Barbara County’s finest wines.

Limited Production Wines

Carr Vineyards and Winery specializes in ultra-premium, limited production wines from Santa Barbara County. Varietals include Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Grenache, Sangiovese and Cabernet Franc. We are open for wine tasting, wines by the glass, and bottles to go.

Experience the Finest Wine Tasting

~ Brick Barn Estate ~

Since the 1800s, the Brick Barn Wine Estate has been a place of farming, ranching, Arabian horse breeding, and entrepreneurship.

Our Story

At Brick Barn Wine Estate, we create wines that we adore and grow grapes that inspire our passion.

Live entertainment at brick barn winery
Credit: Brick Barn Wine Estate

Founded by the dynamic duo, Norman and Kathleen Williams. Brick Barn Winery is the result of their shared dream to craft something extraordinary. It all began in 2012 when they planted the estate vineyard, leading to our very first vintage in 2015. By 2018, we opened the doors to our tasting room, inviting wine lovers to experience our unique creations firsthand.

But the story of Brick Barn goes back even further. It all started in 1968 when Norman acquired 40 acres of this beautiful land. Over the years, the property thrived not just as a hub of organic farming and ranching but also as a renowned Arabian horse farm, earning its place among the valley’s finest.

Today, Brick Barn Wine Estate shines as a symbol of excellence, known for our unwavering commitment to producing wines that truly reflect the essence of our terroir. Every bottle tells a story of heritage, innovation, and the timeless pursuit of perfection.

Estate Vineyards

Nestled in the picturesque Santa Ynez Valley, just north of the Santa Ynez River and near Buellton, lies our 35-acre Brick Barn estate vineyard—a hidden gem in a beautiful wine-growing region. As the westernmost vineyard in the Santa Ynez Valley AVA, Brick Barn is uniquely positioned at the crossroads of the valley’s warmth and the cool Sta. Rita Hills AVA.

Located just 10 miles from the Pacific Ocean, our vineyard enjoys the perfect balance of cool morning fog, refreshing evening breezes, and sunny afternoons. This combination ensures that our grapes ripen gradually, preserving their natural acidity and developing rich, complex flavors. It’s this blend of sunlight and fog that gives Brick Barn’s fruit its remarkable depth and character.

Our Philosophy

“Family and wine have always been at the heart of who I am.”
– Adrian Bolshoi, Winemaker

At Brick Barn Wine Estate, our winemaking philosophy is deeply rooted in our estate vineyard’s unique character. We believe in letting the vineyard speak for itself, using non-invasive farming practices that allow our grapes to express their true essence. Our commitment to minimal intervention ensures that every wine we produce reflects the distinct personality of our terroir.

Under the expert guidance of Winemaker Adrian Bolshoi, we utilize a variety of fermentation and maturation vessels, including oak barrels, stainless steel, and concrete, to bring out the best in each wine. Our goal is to honor the vineyard’s intentions and unlock its full potential. We are creating wines that are a true expression of the land we love.

Gas Pumps & Petroliana Collection

~ Welcome to the Mendenhall Museum ~

Get ready to dive into the bold, high-octane world of the Mendenhall Museum, located in the rugged beauty of Buellton, California, located in the iconic Santa Ynez Valley. Housing one of the West Coast’s most powerful collections of petroliana, this museum, packed with gasoline pumps, globes, and vintage gas, oil, and road signs tells the story of America’s love affair with the road. You’ll also find race cars, adrenaline-pumping racing memorabilia, license plates, and a treasure trove of gas and oil relics alongside other bold antiques.

A Legacy of Collecting

It all started more than 50 years ago with Jack Mendenhall, a man who didn’t just run a service station—he lived and breathed the automotive world. Today, his son Mark and daughter-in-law Vickie keep the engine roaring, continuing to grow this mighty collection.

Jack Mendenhall: The Original American Picker

Jack Mendenhall wasn’t just any collector. In the fifties, he owned and operated a Richfield Service Station, cutting deals with AAA and hitting the open road after selling the station. While traveling the U.S., Jack wasn’t just selling signs—he was building a legacy, one vintage piece at a time.

The Museum Grounds

The museum stands on the very ground where Jack ran his wrecking yard, displaying a lifetime of finds. Mark and Vickie, no strangers to the allure of classic automobiles, spent 25 years running their own Chevron Station, eventually catching the collecting fever themselves.

Speed, Racing, and Hall of Fame Glory

Jack and Mark made their mark on Land Speed Racing. Jack became a Lifetime Member of the exclusive 200 MPH Club, while Mark hit an incredible 210.114 mph. This passion fueled the Mendenhall’s role as the heart of racing history.

Santa Ynez Valley

(PHP) SYV People Helping People, based in Solvang, CA. PHP is the leading provider of human and social services in mid Santa Barbara County. Our service area encompasses Buellton, Solvang, Santa Ynez, Ballard, Los Olivos, Los Alamos, and the Gaviota Coast, with limited services extended to the Lompoc Valley.

The Santa Ynez Valley, known for its rural ranches, farms, and vineyards, has experienced significant population growth, now exceeding 30,000 residents. Despite the area’s natural beauty and agricultural richness, it faces stark income disparities, with over 20% of residents living at or near Federal poverty levels. As of 2018, Santa Barbara County has one of the highest poverty rates in California.

About Us

Incorporated in 1992, PHP is a California 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation registered with the California Registry of Charitable Trusts (registration number CT 1848585). We are in good standing, and inquiries regarding our status can be made to the Office of the California Attorney General at www.caag.state.ca.us.

Our Vision – SYV People Helping People

Our Mission

We address emergency and basic needs of individuals and families in the Santa Ynez Valley, Los Alamos, and nearby communities. PHP provides comprehensive integrated support services, and acting as a catalyst for positive community change.

Our History

Founded in 1992 by local citizens and government officials. PHP initially operated from donated office space in the Veteran’s Memorial Hall in Solvang with a budget of $40,000. Our services began with food distribution and advocacy, assisting clients with government aid applications, commercial disputes, and accessing other community services. By 1994, we served 400 unique clients.

Today, PHP has grown significantly, operating from a dedicated building with 18 full and part-time employees across 7 locations, offering 18 direct service programs, and managing a budget exceeding $2 million. In 2018-19, we served 3,725 unique clients.

Programs & Services

Our integrated service model offers a “hand up” to families and individuals, promoting self-sufficiency through a “one stop shop” approach. Clients can access multiple services through a single contact with a Family Advocate, ensuring comprehensive support.

Donate – SYV People Helping People

PHP relies on the generosity of community members to continue our vital work. Your donations help us provide essential services and support to those in need, fostering a stronger, self-sufficient community. Help us change lives for the better.

Small urban and wild farmlands uniquely accommodate and preserve ecosystems while they supply quality food to local communities. Small urban farmlands are islands of bio-diverse green in the asphalt sprawl of human development. Wild farmlands personify natural sustainable agriculture, preserving ecosystems while providing premium quality foods.

California, as a representative of big agriculture in the developed countries of the world, is losing her small farms, and in particular the wild farmlands. We would like to change this.

Our vision is to see small sustainable farmlands that serve local communities thrive and increase in numbers not only here on the Central Coast, but worldwide. The Central Coast of California is in a unique position to lead the way.

Santa Ynez Chamber of Commerce

The Santa Ynez Chamber of Commerce was officially formed in December 2012. Our goal is to promote and support the wide variety of business activities found in the Township of Santa Ynez.

santa-ynez-chamberJust as in 1882 when Santa Ynez was founded, the Township hosts businesses that serve both local residents and visitors.  Even the Chamber’s founders were surprised to learn that more than 100 businesses call Santa Ynez home. Altogether, these include restaurants, retail shops, professional services, accommodations and contractors.

The Chamber is governed by a nine-member Board of Directors representing a broad cross-section of the business community.

The primary mission of the SY Chamber is to continue to raise awareness of the local business community and all that is available in our hometown simply by working together and supporting each other.

Sunstone Winery

Sunstone Winery, nestled in Santa Ynez, began as a dream for the Rice family in 1989. They sought a place for top-notch organic grapes and found it on their 52-acre ranch. Linda Rice’s vision, sadly cut short in 2010, lives on in Sunstone, now under new ownership with Teddy and Djamila Cabugos joining in 2019 and John and Janna Price in 2021.

sunstone-winery-santa-ynezThe estate’s 28-acre vineyard, planted in 1990, remains one of Santa Barbara County’s oldest continuously organically grown vineyards. Sunstone is not just a winery but a destination, honored by locals and visitors alike for its exceptional wines and inviting ambiance.

The winery’s origins trace back to a converted horse barn, rebuilt into a stunning tasting room in 1994. Surrounded by French lavender and rosemary, Sunstone offers a picturesque setting for wine tasting, with a kitchen, barrel-aging caves, and outdoor spaces for events and picnics.

Director of Winemaking Brittany Rice focuses on Bordeaux and Rhone-style wines, with Sunstone renowned for its Viognier and Syrah. The flagship blend, “Eros,” has received numerous accolades, along with other Sunstone wines consistently rated highly.

The Sunstone Villa

The Sunstone Villa, built by Fred and Linda Rice, stands as a testament to their commitment to authenticity. Constructed with reclaimed materials from France, it offers an intimate setting for Wine Club members to experience the Sunstone lifestyle.

The name “Sunstone” reflects the winery’s connection to sunlight and history, symbolized by a keystone over the tasting room’s entrance. Sunstone’s values center on environmental responsibility, sustainability, and fostering strong relationships with all stakeholders.

Passion for Excellence

Sunstone Winery embodies a family’s passion for winemaking and commitment to excellence. Sunstone offers a place where wine, food, and camaraderie flourish against the backdrop of California’s Central Coast.

Sunstone’s tasting room is reminiscent of some of the small wineries in the Provencal French countryside. The gorgeous courtyards and picnic grounds, surrounded by vineyards, provide the perfect place to experience the wines. Tucked on the edge of the Santa Ynez River, in the heart of Santa Barbara Wine country, Sunstone Vineyards, Winery and Villa is also a beautiful event destination that greets your guests with the delicate fragrance of French lavender and rosemary.
