Our Founder

Solvang Fine Art was founded by Julie Torchia, a native of San Luis Obispo and a specialist in fine prints. Julie holds a Bachelor’s degree in Art from San Francisco State University and a Master’s degree in Modern and Contemporary Art History from Hunter College, City University of New York. Her career includes organizing numerous exhibitions featuring historic prints for galleries nationwide and serving as the former Curator for Harte International Galleries in Lahaina, Hawaii.

Our Collection

Our collection includes works by historic artists such as Richard Anuskiewicz, Bernard Buffet, Alexander Calder, Jules Cheret, Salvador Dali, Jim Dine, Albrecht Durer, Sam Francis, Henri Matisse, Joan Miro, Pablo Picasso, Rembrandt van Rijn, and Victor Vasarely.

Petroliana Collection

The Mendenhall Museum is a private collection located in California’s beautiful Santa Ynez Valley. The museum has one of the west coasts largest petroliana collections including gasoline pumps, globes, and porcelain gas, oil, & road signs. There are also race cars, racing memorabilia, license plates, gas & oil items, and other miscellaneous antiques.

This collection was started over fifty years ago by the late Jack Mendenhall and is carried on today by his son and daughter in law, Mark and Vickie.

We will schedule private tours for individuals and clubs. We host special events, such as weddings, birthday parties, class reunions, family reunions, anniversary’s, etc. We also have car and motorcycle club gatherings.

Museum Tours are by appointment only.

The 19th of 21 California missions, Old Santa Inés Mission is located in Solvang, California. The Franciscan Fathers founded this historic Spanish mission in 1804.

Although, Padre Junipero Serra founded the first 8 missions beginning with mission San Diego de Alcala in San Diego in 1769.

  • The Spanish crown built these missions to controlled the secular activities of the Catholic Church in Spain and its territories. Consequently, together with the military, Spain could establish a presence in California and protect this territory from Russia and England.
  • The military established presidios close to ports and acted as a provisional government – Spain’s representative. They distributed funds for the Missions’ maintenance, and recommended how many padres would be allowed at the various Missions.

Visitors can explore the mission’s architectural beauty, including its iconic adobe church and picturesque gardens.

PCPA - Pacific Conservatory Theatre

For over half a century, PCPA – Pacific Conservatory Theatre has stood as a beacon of artistic excellence. It has also served as a training ground for talented performers.

Founded in 1964 by Donovan Marley, PCPA quickly established itself as a premier professional theatre company. Its first summer season debuted in 1965.

Allan Hancock College

Allan Hancock College President Walter Conrad recognized the need for cultural enrichment in the community. This led to the creation of PCPA, committed to bringing exceptional theatre to the Central Coast.

 Platform Players

The inaugural group of performers, known as the Platform Players, transformed a modest barracks building into the Interim Theatre, seating just 100 people. Their debut production, *A Man for All Seasons*, captivated audiences, resulting in standing-room-only crowds for all ten performances. This enthusiastic reception marked the beginning of a tradition of excellence that PCPA has upheld ever since. Our Story

In 1961, a passionate group of Valley residents recognized the importance of preserving local history and founded the Santa Ynez Valley Historical Society. From a single room, the museum has grown into a large complex with a picturesque courtyard, showcasing exhibits from the Chumash period through the early 20th-century ranching days.

The Parks-Janeway Carriage House

Adjacent to the historic Santa Ynez jail (1885-1913), the 7,500-square-foot Parks-Janeway Carriage House boasts one of the nation’s finest collections of authentic horse-drawn vehicles. Explore over 36 carriages, including wagons, carts, and stagecoaches, along with an exceptional display of saddlery featuring Visalia and Bohlin masterpieces.

Ellen Gleason Memorial Library

For those passionate about history, the Ellen Gleason Memorial Library is a goldmine. This esteemed reference library features nearly 1,000 rare books, maps, legal documents, oral histories, old newspapers, and photographs. The museum library focuses on the Santa Ynez Valley, Santa Barbara County, and California history.
