Sta. Rita Hills

Winegrowers Alliance

The Sta. Rita Hills Winegrowers Alliance was formed in 1997 to unify growers and winemakers in the Western Santa Ynez Valley for the purpose of developing their own American Viticulture Area and to promote this unique wine growing region.

Sta. Rita Hills American Viticulture Appellation (AMA)

The Sta. Rita Hills American Viticulture Appellation is located on California’s Central Coast in Santa Barbara County. The Pacific Ocean’s marine layer and afternoon ocean breezes traverse the coastal valley corridors between the Purisima Hills and the Santa Rosa Hills, creating the perfect environment for growing Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and other cool climate wine grape varieties.

Alliance Mission

The Sta. Rita Hills AVA status was granted in 2001 by the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Regulation Division. The mission of the Alliance is to support the viticulture and enological business interests of its 47 Members, as they relate to grapes and wine from our AVA.

People Helping People

Santa Ynez Valley

(PHP) SYV People Helping People, based in Solvang, CA. PHP is the leading provider of human and social services in mid Santa Barbara County. Our service area encompasses Buellton, Solvang, Santa Ynez, Ballard, Los Olivos, Los Alamos, and the Gaviota Coast, with limited services extended to the Lompoc Valley.

The Santa Ynez Valley, known for its rural ranches, farms, and vineyards, has experienced significant population growth, now exceeding 30,000 residents. Despite the area’s natural beauty and agricultural richness, it faces stark income disparities, with over 20% of residents living at or near Federal poverty levels. As of 2018, Santa Barbara County has one of the highest poverty rates in California.

About Us

Incorporated in 1992, PHP is a California 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation registered with the California Registry of Charitable Trusts (registration number CT 1848585). We are in good standing, and inquiries regarding our status can be made to the Office of the California Attorney General at www.caag.state.ca.us.

Our Vision – SYV People Helping People

People Helping People envisions a community where all individuals have the opportunity to achieve self-sufficiency with dignity, realize their potential, and live in a healthy environment.

Our Mission

We address emergency and basic needs of individuals and families in the Santa Ynez Valley, Los Alamos, and nearby communities. PHP provides comprehensive integrated support services, and acting as a catalyst for positive community change.

Our History

Founded in 1992 by local citizens and government officials. PHP initially operated from donated office space in the Veteran’s Memorial Hall in Solvang with a budget of $40,000. Our services began with food distribution and advocacy, assisting clients with government aid applications, commercial disputes, and accessing other community services. By 1994, we served 400 unique clients.

Today, PHP has grown significantly, operating from a dedicated building with 18 full and part-time employees across 7 locations, offering 18 direct service programs, and managing a budget exceeding $2 million. In 2018-19, we served 3,725 unique clients.

Programs & Services

Our integrated service model offers a “hand up” to families and individuals, promoting self-sufficiency through a “one stop shop” approach. Clients can access multiple services through a single contact with a Family Advocate, ensuring comprehensive support.

Donate – SYV People Helping People

PHP relies on the generosity of community members to continue our vital work. Your donations help us provide essential services and support to those in need, fostering a stronger, self-sufficient community. Help us change lives for the better.
